Obituary for Carl L. Vaughn Jr. Formerly of Engine 55.
Carl Llwellyn Vaughn, Jr., son of the late Carl Llwellyn Vaughn, Sr. and Ethel Bushrod Vaughn was born on March 26, 1961 in Baltimore, MD. He departed this life on September 2, 2020 at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care located at Sinai Hospital.
He received his early Christian education at New Shiloh Christian Community Church, and he also attended Union Memorial United Methodist Church.
Carl fulfilled his lifelong dream when he entered the Baltimore City Fire Academy on August 9, 1982. When he graduated from the academy, he was assigned to Engine Company 13 at the corners of McCulloh and McMechen Streets. He met his wife Stephanie there when she came to visit her uncle. They married in 1990 and from their union, they had a son, Michael Eric Vaughn. When Carl was promoted to Pump Operator, he moved to Engine 23 at Steadman Station. Carl retired from the fire department as a lieutenant on June 1, 2012, ending his 30-year career at Engine 55 or as he often called it, the double nickel. He absolutely LOVED his job.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Stephanie Y. Vaughn; a son Michael E. Vaughn; a daughter Carletta Oliver; five grandchildren; two sisters; a mother-in-law, father-in-law; three brothers-in-law; 2 sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
